HitPaw VikPea bundles more than ten AI models in a Windows and Mac app that upscales 480p to 1080p clips to 4K or 8K, repairs noise and compression, steadies shaky footage, raises frame rates to 60 fps and colorizes black-and-white video. Rendering runs on your own GPU, with an optional credit-billed cloud mode.

About HitPaw VikPea

HitPaw VikPea is a desktop video enhancer from HitPaw, a multimedia software company founded in 2019 and registered in Hong Kong as HitPaw Co., Limited. It began as HitPaw Video Enhancer, whose first build shipped on 26 May 2022 with General Denoise, Animation and Face models, and HitPaw renamed it VikPea on 29 October 2024. Many third-party reviews still say Video Enhancer, so searches for either name land here. Version 5.5.0 shipped on 25 August 2026, and the major releases since September 2025 have landed two to three months apart.

Using it is a short loop: import a clip, pick a model for the footage, and run a before-and-after preview before exporting. The models are split by problem rather than by strength: Video Quality Repair for noise and compression artifacts, General Restoration for lost texture, UHD Restoration for sources of 720p and above, HD and Fast Sharpen for soft footage, an Animation model for cartoons and anime, and Portrait models for faces. An AI Pilot option analyses the clip and recommends a model, which helps people who do not know which one to try. Frame interpolation smooths choppy motion, and a stabilize model steadies shaky handheld video. The generator turns text or images into clips, using models such as Kling and, per Capterra's vendor-supplied profile, Pixverse; the guide to turning photos into video compares free options.

It fits people with footage that already exists and one quality problem to fix: digitised camcorder tapes, compressed product videos, drone clips and AI-generated clips that look soft. The product page names output from Kling, Sora, Veo and Seedance as supported inputs. Editors who want enhancement inside a timeline are better served by Topaz Video AI, which sells plugins for several editors, while social creators who only need a sharper final export may find the upscaling inside CapCut enough. Anyone editing on a phone could look at Remini for brief clips, and people who generate footage in the cloud can compare Runway. Full editors such as VEED and Descript sit in a different category, because VikPea's tools are built around improving a clip rather than assembling an edit. YouTube creators weighing the wider toolset can start from the buyer's guide to AI for YouTube videos.

The license structure is the part to understand before buying. Each personal license is limited to one computer, a Windows license does not work on a Mac, and the Mac monthly plan costs well above the Windows one. The license gives local rendering. Cloud acceleration and cloud export are paid extras billed in credits on top of a subscription, while the AI video generator, the AI Colorist and cloud watermark removal take credits with no subscription at all. A free copy previews results only. The plans table and the cost answer below carry the figures.

Because rendering runs on your own GPU by default, speed tracks your hardware, as the guide to running AI locally explains. HitPaw's privacy policy says content processed by its AI services is deleted within seven days and not used for model training. The separate Android app, published by HitPaw, has more than 1M downloads and a 3.7 rating from 3,579 Google Play ratings as of 7 October 2026. For the wider field, see the guide to AI video editing and creation, the all-in-one versus specialists guide, the AI photo editing and restoration guide for stills (where Topaz Photo AI does the same job for photos), and the media generation directory.

Pricing

Read from HitPaw's pricing pages on 7 October 2026, tax excluded. 39 once. A limited-time code, HP-AS-20, was advertising an extra 20% off year and perpetual plans, so the live price can sit lower.

39 Perpetual. 95 for 100, and a separate business plan is quoted through a form. Year and perpetual plans include 500 and 800 bonus credits.

031 a credit. 75 on the smallest subscription pack. Cloud export is charged by resolution and frame rate, and the pages read publish no rate table.

Updates on a perpetual license cover the current major version only. Topaz Video AI, by comparison, has stopped selling perpetual licenses.

Key Features

  • Problem-specific enhancement models: General Restoration, Video Quality Repair, UHD Restoration, HD and Fast Sharpen, Animation and AI Generative models each target one kind of damage, and an AI Pilot picks one after analysing the clip.
  • Upscaling to 4K and 8K: The vendor lists 480p, 720p and 1080p inputs and 4K or 8K output, though its model guide caps the AI Generative model at 4K.
  • Portrait restoration and generation: Portrait Restoration has a General mode and a Detail mode meant for close-ups at 1080p and above, while Portrait Generation rebuilds damaged or hidden facial regions.
  • Frame interpolation and stabilization: A frame interpolation model converts 15 or 30 fps footage to 60 fps, and a separate stabilize model reduces shake in handheld clips.
  • Colorizing and HDR tools: AI Colorist, added in version 5.0.0 in September 2025, colorizes black-and-white footage, and the same app converts SDR video to HDR and brightens low-light clips.
  • Cloud acceleration and cloud export: Paid users can send seven models to HitPaw servers, which the vendor FAQ says speeds processing by 30% to 98%, billed in credits.
  • AI video generator: Added in version 5.1.0 in December 2025, it makes clips from text or images using third-party models the vendor names as Seedance, Kling and Veo 3.
  • Cleanup utilities: Background removal, watermark removal and a repair tool for damaged files sit in the same app as the enhancers.

Pros

  • Sold as a one-time perpetual license as well as a subscription, which suits someone who wants to avoid a recurring fee.
  • The free copy shows a before-and-after preview on your own clip before any payment is taken.
  • One app covers upscaling, noise removal, stabilization, colorizing and frame-rate conversion, so a single job does not need several tools.
  • Its public version history shows new models and tools arriving often, including the generator and AI Colorist.

Cons

  • Exports need a paid license, and cloud acceleration, cloud export, the AI video generator and AI Colorist spend credits that are sold separately.
  • Each license is tied to a single computer, Windows licenses cannot be moved to a Mac, and Mac monthly pricing runs about 63% above Windows.
  • No plugin for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro appears on the vendor pages HokAI read, so enhancement happens in a separate app and a round trip.
  • No cloud export rates are published, so the credit cost of a long cloud job is hard to estimate beforehand.
  • Capterra lists no user reviews for it, the vendor page shows no benchmark scores, and HokAI has not run its models on test footage.
  • Third-party listings, including Capterra's vendor-supplied profile, say it runs on iPhone and iPad, but HokAI found no App Store listing on 7 October 2026, so only desktop and Android are counted here.
  • The vendor pages disagree on small points, with the pricing page naming Seedance 2.5 and the credit pages naming Seedance 2.0, and the Mac processor line differing between pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are HitPaw VikPea's pricing plans in 2026?

On Windows, VikPea costs $43.19 for one month, $99.99 for a year or $350.39 once for a perpetual license, and the year and perpetual plans add 500 and 800 bonus credits. Mac prices differ: $70.39 a month and $110.39 a year, with the same $350.39 perpetual, so a Mac user pays about 63% more by the month. Windows team plans start at $459.95 a year for 5 PCs. Cloud acceleration, cloud export, the video generator and AI Colorist spend separately sold credits, and tax is added at checkout.

What do you get on HitPaw VikPea's free tier?

The free copy previews enhancement results on your own footage, using short before-and-after clips of 3, 5 or 10 seconds, and the vendor says the trial has no time limit. The pricing table lists three free previews for its restoration and generative models, and the vendor's FAQ states that exporting an enhanced video needs a paid license. Credits for the video generator, AI Colorist and cloud watermark removal can be bought without any subscription.

What are the best alternatives to HitPaw VikPea?

Topaz Video AI is the closest rival, with editor plugins and diffusion models for damaged footage but subscription-only sales. CapCut and Runway handle upscaling as one step inside a larger editor or studio, which suits people who are already working there. Remini enhances short clips from a phone in a single upload, and HokAI has not tested any of these head to head against VikPea.

HitPaw VikPea or Topaz Video AI: which should you pick?

Choose VikPea when you want to see a preview before paying and want to own a license outright; its published minimum is an Intel i3 or AMD RX 580 with 8 GB of RAM. Choose Topaz Video AI when you need plugins for editors such as DaVinci Resolve Studio or Final Cut Pro, or its Starlight models, which want a GPU with at least 10 GB of VRAM. HitPaw's own comparison page is marketing, so treat this as a split of jobs, not a quality ranking.

What does it take to start using HitPaw VikPea?

Download the Windows or Mac installer from HitPaw, install it and sign in with a HitPaw ID, which can be a Google account; a first-time buyer receives an initial password by email. The vendor lists Windows 10 or 11 with 8 GB of RAM and 4 GB of free disk as the minimum, recommends 16 GB of RAM, and asks for macOS 13 or later on a Mac. Import a clip, choose a model or let AI Pilot choose, and run the free preview before deciding on a license.

Top Alternatives

  • Topaz Video AI: Pick HitPaw VikPea for a perpetual license and a free preview before buying; pick Topaz Video AI for editor plugins or its Starlight models on badly damaged footage.
  • CapCut: Pick CapCut if upscaling is one step inside a social-video edit; pick HitPaw VikPea if the video already exists and needs repair, stabilizing or colorizing as its own pass.
  • Runway: Pick Runway if you generate and edit clips in one credit-billed web studio; pick HitPaw VikPea if you want to enhance existing footage in a desktop app on your own hardware.
  • Remini: Pick Remini if you enhance short clips from a phone in one upload; pick HitPaw VikPea if you work on a computer and want a choice of models.
