Remini, built by Bending Spoons, has passed 500 million Google Play downloads and holds a 4.6 App Store rating from about 355,000 ratings. It sharpens blurry, old or low-resolution photos and short videos with AI on iOS, Android and the web, using outside models from Google, Black Forest Labs and OpenAI for some features.

About Remini

Remini is an AI photo and video enhancer that takes a blurry, grainy or low-resolution picture and returns a sharper one from a single upload. Wikipedia records that it began as an app from BigWinePot, a Chinese developer, and that the Italian company Bending Spoons bought it in June 2021, while PitchBook lists the founding year as 2019. Bending Spoons S.p.A. of Milan is the data controller named in the privacy policy, and the Android app has passed 500 million downloads on Google Play.

Remini runs the work on its own servers rather than on your device, so an older phone or a modest laptop is enough. The privacy policy names three outside AI processors, Google, Black Forest Labs (maker of the FLUX image models) and OpenAI, and adds that for some features Bending Spoons does not control or fully see the training data behind the third-party models. A November 2025 Google Cloud press release said Remini integrated Gemini Flash Image, nicknamed Nano Banana, through Vertex AI, and reported a 175% jump in weekly installs to 1.16 million plus more than 100 million images generated in under two months. Those are the company's own figures, published as a customer story.

Remini is built for the person who wants a result rather than a workflow. If you would rather have sliders and a yearly desktop licence, Topaz Photo AI is the closer match (our Stability AI vs Topaz Photo AI comparison shows where it sits), and Luminar Neo sells a perpetual licence for a fuller editor. Krea pairs a daily free allowance with generation and upscaling in one studio, and Photoroom is the better fit for product photos edited at volume. The rest of the field sits under AI image generators, and our guide to AI photo editing and restoration tools covers the repair side of the category more broadly. For generating new pictures rather than fixing old ones, see our guide to AI tools that create images and videos.

The store scores and the review sites point in different directions. On Google Play the app shows 4.2 from about 5.8 million reviews, while the billing complaints that pull its Trustpilot page down are covered under the drawbacks below. Read both before you hand over a card.

Pricing

Free tier with ads, subscription for video and the fuller tool set. 99. Remini says there is no fixed price list because each user sees a different offer, so the figure on your own paywall is the one that counts.

99 weekly Pro price to a monthly equivalent. Remini Web has its own Personal and Business plans, billed weekly, monthly or yearly, and a web plan cannot be used in the mobile app while only the higher in-app plans include web access. Its help center lists the Personal plan at 20, 80 or 1,040 photos per week, month or year and Business as unlimited with commercial use, but that article was last updated in July 2023 and the help center lists no web prices.

For a once-a-year licence see Topaz Photo AI, or Luminar Neo for a one-time purchase.

Key Features

  • One-upload enhancement: Upload a photo or short video and Remini returns a sharpened version with no settings to set first, processed on its servers.
  • AI toolbar on the web: After an enhancement, Remini Web offers Face Enhance, Beautify filters, Background Enhance, Color Correction and saved default settings (help center page updated 15 May 2026).
  • Video enhancement: Only subscribers can enhance video, and the weekly allowance resets every Monday and varies by plan.
  • AI Photos and photo packs: The apps generate new portraits from the user's own uploads, and Google Cloud reported more than 30 new photo packs shipped in under a week in late 2025.
  • Bulk enhancer for Business plans: The Business plan on Remini Web enhances up to 15 photos at once and exports JPG, PNG or TIFF, per a help article last updated in April 2023.
  • Photoshop plugin: Business-plan users generate a plugin key in their web account and add the enhanced image as a layer inside Photoshop.
  • Stated retention and training rules: Per its privacy policy (updated 21 September 2026), enhancement uploads and results are deleted after one day, and images are used to train its AI only if the user opts in.

Pros

  • No learning curve: unlike Topaz Photo AI, there are no sharpening or noise sliders to understand before the first result appears.
  • The privacy policy names its retention windows and its outside AI processors, so you can check where a portrait goes before uploading it.
  • A browser version means a scanned print on a PC can be enhanced without first moving it to a phone.
  • A free tier lets you test it on your own photos before any subscription decision.

Cons

  • Billing is the loudest complaint: Trustpilot shows 1.5 out of 5 across 71 reviews, and 19 of the 24 reviews on its first page mention charges, subscriptions, refunds or payment, including weekly charges that ran for weeks after a single use.
  • The price on your paywall can differ from what another user is offered, so a review cannot tell you what you will pay.
  • It can reconstruct rather than recover. On distant or very old faces the model may substitute plausible features, and an App Store reviewer warned the result can stop looking like the person, so keep the original scan.
  • The public API was discontinued, according to Remini's help center, so pipelines that depended on it no longer work.

Data Handling

Training-data policy
Images and videos are not used to train its AI unless the user explicitly opts in, and face data of US-based users is not used to improve its features (privacy policy, updated 21 September 2026).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you pay for Remini?

Remini does not publish a fixed price list, and its help center says each user is shown a different offer on the in-app paywall. When we checked the US App Store on 3 October 2026 it listed Lite at weekly price points of $4.99, $5.99 and $7.99, with Pro priced at $9.99 weekly and a one-month option at the same figure. A $9.99 weekly plan comes to about $43 over a month, and every subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in your Apple or Google account. A Remini Web plan cannot be moved to the app, and only the higher in-app plans come with web access.

Is Remini free to use?

In a limited way: Remini says it offers limited access for free, and the app carries ads. Video enhancement is subscriber-only, with an allowance that resets each Monday. On Remini Web the help center ties watermark-free downloads to a paid plan. Free trials appear only on some plans and can be used once.

What should you use instead of Remini?

If you want to control each setting, Topaz Photo AI sells a desktop licence on a yearly term. Krea gives 100 compute units a day with no card, which suits someone who also wants to generate images. Photoroom is aimed at product shots and batch-edits large sets of images on its Pro plan.

Is Remini better than Topaz Photo AI?

It depends on the job. Remini is quicker to learn because it exposes almost no settings, and it enhances on Bending Spoons' servers, so any phone will do. Choose Topaz Photo AI when you need control over how much sharpening is applied, because Remini's face model can produce plausible detail instead of recovering the real one.

How long does it take to get going with Remini?

A few minutes. Install the app or open Remini Web, upload a photo and the result comes back with no settings to choose, which Remini says takes seconds. Remini Web sign-in uses Google, Apple or Facebook. If a free trial is offered, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being charged.

Top Alternatives

  • Topaz Photo AI: Pick Topaz Photo AI if adjustable settings on a desktop licence matter to you; pick Remini if one tap on a phone is the whole job.
  • Krea: Choose Krea when generation and upscaling should live in one studio on a free daily allowance; Remini wins for portrait and old-print cleanup.
  • Photoroom: Choose Photoroom for product and e-commerce photos edited in batches; stay with Remini for faces and family prints.
  • Luminar Neo: Pick Luminar Neo if a one-time-licence desktop editor appeals to you; pick Remini if you want no editor at all.
