Picsart is an AI creative platform that puts 175+ image, video and audio models, a photo and video editor, a node-based workflow canvas and an agent marketplace behind one account. It runs on web, iOS, Android, Mac and Windows, meters generation in monthly credits, and connects to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor through a hosted MCP server.

About Picsart

Picsart started in November 2011 in Yerevan, Armenia, as an Android photo editor built by Hovhannes Avoyan, Artavazd Mehrabyan and Mikayel Vardanyan. A $130 million Series C led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 in August 2021 valued the company above $1 billion, and it now runs from Miami and Yerevan. Picsart says it supports over 150 million users worldwide, and Wikipedia reports more than a billion app downloads.

In 2026 the product changed shape. Flow arrived in January as a node-based canvas for chaining models into reusable workflows, AI Playground followed in March as one prompt box for third-party models, an agent marketplace opened on 16 March, a command-line client shipped in April and a native Mac and Windows app in August. The model list now includes ByteDance's Seedance 2.5, Kuaishou's Kling 3.0, Google's Veo 3.1 and Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image), and Black Forest Labs' FLUX.2. Picsart is therefore a reseller of other labs' models with an editor and a workflow layer on top, not a model maker.

Everything generative is metered in credits. Picsart's pricing page converts a Pro month into roughly 100 Nano Banana Pro images or a few minutes of top-tier video, so one maximum-length video clip burns the credits of twelve images. The unit math is in the pricing notes below.

It fits social media managers, small online sellers who need background removal and batch edits, and agencies that want team seats and ad variations. It is the wrong tool for anyone who needs a fixed monthly price for unlimited video. Canva is the safer pick for brand-controlled documents, Adobe Firefly for people already working inside Photoshop, Freepik when a lower entry price and a stock library matter most, Photoroom for marketplace product shots only, and CapCut for cutting footage you already shot. The full set of media generation tools is in the directory.

For developers and assistants, Picsart runs a hosted MCP server that signs in with OAuth and works from Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor and others without an API key. For procurement questions, Picsart's enterprise help center states that it passes third-party SOC 2 audits every year and answers questions on GDPR, CPPA, subprocessors and its data protection officer. That documentation sits in the Picsart Enterprise help center, so confirm it covers the plan you buy before relying on it.

Pricing

Picsart has a free account, a Pro plan and a per-seat Ultra plan, read from picsart.com/pricing on 3 October 2026. Pro is $15 a month, or $10.50 a month billed yearly ($126), for 500 credits. Ultra scales by credit level, per seat: 1,500 credits at $47 monthly or $37.50 yearly, 2,500 at $75 or $60, 5,000 at $145 or $115.83, 10,000 at $250 or $200, and a custom quote above 10,000. Monthly credits expire at renewal and purchased add-on credits do not.

HokAI's unit math from Picsart's own figures (about 100 Nano Banana Pro images or 250 seconds of video from its flagship video model per 500 credits): on yearly billing Pro costs about $0.021 a credit, against $0.025, $0.024, $0.023 and $0.020 at Ultra's four credit levels, so only the 10,000-credit level undercuts Pro, by about 5%. An image costs about 5 credits (roughly 10 cents on yearly Pro) and a 30-second clip from that model about 60 credits (roughly $1.26 yearly, $1.80 monthly). Ultra's extra cost buys team seats, a higher credit ceiling and add-on credits, not a cheaper credit.

Key Features

  • AI Playground model hub: One prompt box reaches 175+ image, video and audio models as listed on the Picsart homepage on 3 October 2026, including Seedance 2.5, Nano Banana Pro and Kling 3.0.
  • Flow workflow canvas: Flow, launched in January 2026, is a node-based canvas where you connect models and uploaded assets, then save the chain as a reusable workflow that can be rerun in batches.
  • Agent marketplace: The agents page lists 19 live agents, among them an art director, a video director, a brand designer and a localization designer, each taking a brief and returning finished assets.
  • Hosted MCP server and CLI: A hosted MCP server at api.picsart.com/gen-ai/mcp signs in with OAuth, needs no API key and connects to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and GitHub Copilot, while a separate GenAI CLI covers terminal use.
  • Editing core: Background and object removal, a one-tap image enhancer and a batch editor that processes up to 50 images at once on Pro and double that on Ultra.
  • Native desktop app: AI Playground runs as a native Mac and Windows app since August 2026, with prompt tools and voice transcription running on the machine and offline support for some features.
  • Developer APIs and SDK: Picsart for Developers sells a Remove Background API and an embeddable editor SDK on usage-based pricing for ecommerce and web-to-print platforms, separate from the app plans.
  • Team plan roles: Ultra includes a Team plan with Team Admin and Team Member roles, where the admin handles billing and invitations and cannot change the seat count mid-subscription.

Pros

  • Credits spent on a generation that fails are returned automatically, which Picsart's pricing FAQ says happens within 24 to 48 hours, so a bad render does not cost an allowance.
  • One account works across iOS, Android, web and the Microsoft Store, and the plan table lists ten devices per subscription.
  • On yearly billing Pro costs less per credit than Ultra's first three credit levels, so a solo creator rarely needs the team tier to save money.
  • Purchased add-on credits never expire, unlike the monthly allowance, so a one-off campaign top-up is not wasted at renewal.

Cons

  • Credits are the real ceiling: a maximum-length video clip costs as many credits as a dozen Nano Banana Pro images, and the unused monthly allowance disappears at renewal.
  • The current pricing page does not publish what the free account includes for AI, and one July 2026 G2 reviewer calls the free tier more of a taste test than something to rely on.
  • Picsart's own pages disagree on details: the photo-editor page still showed an older Ultra price and marked MCP access as coming soon on 3 October 2026, so only the live pricing page is safe to quote.
  • A July 2026 G2 reviewer reports lag on large high-resolution files when several effects are stacked.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you pay for Picsart?

Pro starts at $15 on monthly billing and drops to $10.50 per month when paid yearly ($126 a year), with 500 credits each month. Ultra is sold per seat on a credit slider: 1,500 credits is $47 monthly or $37.50 yearly, 2,500 is $75 or $60, 5,000 is $145 or $115.83, and 10,000 is $250 or $200, with custom quotes above that. Monthly credits expire at renewal, while purchased add-on credits do not. Figures come from the live pricing page as checked in early October 2026.

What do you get on Picsart's free tier?

Picsart says many editing tools, templates and selected AI tools are free, with premium tools and content behind a subscription, and most paid plans offer a trial depending on your account history. The pricing page does not publish the free account's AI credit allowance, so check the balance in your profile after signing in. One July 2026 G2 reviewer describes the free tier as a taste of the product rather than a working setup.

What should you use instead of Picsart?

Teams that live in templates and slide decks usually compare it with [Canva](/hub/tools/canva), while people inside Photoshop look at [Adobe Firefly](/hub/tools/adobe-firefly). [Freepik](/hub/tools/freepik) bundles stock assets with generation, [Photoroom](/hub/tools/photoroom) narrows to product photos, and [CapCut](/hub/tools/capcut) suits anyone trimming existing footage. The closest like-for-like rival depends on whether your output is video, product shots or brand documents.

Is Picsart better than Canva?

Not for every job. Canva is built around brand-controlled templates and shared documents, while Picsart is built around generating and editing images and short video with many third-party models. If the deliverable is a deck or a brand document, Canva is the safer pick. If it is a video clip or a set of image variations from several models, Picsart gives more range, at the cost of a credit meter running on every generation.

What does it take to start using Picsart?

Create an account on picsart.com or in the iOS, Android, Mac or Windows app, open the editor or AI Playground and pick a model; credits are deducted per generation and failed ones are returned. To use it from an assistant, add the hosted MCP server as a custom connector in Claude, or in Claude Code run: claude mcp add --transport http picsart-gen-ai https://api.picsart.com/gen-ai/mcp, then authenticate with your Picsart login. No API key or CLI install is needed for the hosted connection.

Top Alternatives

  • Canva: Pick Canva if your work is mostly brand-controlled team documents and decks; pick Picsart if the job is generating and remixing images and video across many models.
  • Adobe Firefly: Pick Firefly if you already work in Photoshop or Premiere and want output Adobe says is trained on licensed content; pick Picsart if you want third-party models such as Seedance and Kling on one credit balance.
  • Freepik: Pick Freepik for a lower entry price and a large stock library; pick Picsart if you want its editor, workflow canvas and agent marketplace around the generation.
  • Photoroom: Pick Photoroom if marketplace product photos are nearly all you make; pick Picsart if the same account must also produce video, social posts and generated scenes.
  • CapCut: Pick CapCut if your main job is cutting footage you already shot; pick Picsart if you mostly generate new clips and images from prompts.
