OpenAI's ChatGPT Work went live on 9 July 2026 as an agent layer in the chat product. It plans a stated goal, pulls context from plugins, files and a built-in browser, and produces documents, spreadsheets, presentations or sites. OpenAI's pricing page lists access on all plans, limited on Free and Go and fuller on Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise.

About ChatGPT Work

ChatGPT Work is OpenAI's workplace agent mode inside ChatGPT, launched on 9 July 2026. It turns a plain-language goal into a finished document, spreadsheet, presentation, report or website by pulling context from connected apps, files and a built-in browser, instead of only answering in a chat window. OpenAI positions it as the layer that moves a chatbot from talking about work to producing the deliverable.

Since launch the access rules have widened. The public pricing page now lists Work on every plan: limited on desktop for Free and Go, expanded on Plus across desktop, web and mobile, and fuller on Pro, Business and Enterprise. It runs on the ChatGPT model line-up, including GPT-6 Astra on the Pro tiers and GPT-5.6 Terra for the limited desktop access on Free and Go. OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol, announced on 29 September 2026, reaches all paid ChatGPT plans, though its recap does not say Work uses it by default.

The 29 September 2026 DevDay recap added most of what changed since July. Team tasks let Business and Enterprise users delegate recurring work, such as a weekly project update, that runs on a schedule or reacts to an event like a new email or Slack message. ChatGPT Space and Pages give a team a shared home and a document type built for people and agents together. Plugin extensions, Sites that host plugins and MCP Events automations widen what Work can reach, and the Agents API brings computer use to Work for the top Pro tier and Enterprise. OpenAI's Plan mode asks questions and drafts a step-by-step plan before work starts, so a reviewer can approve the approach first. Shared slide editing is promised, not yet live.

Work suits people who stitch several tools together to finish one deliverable: operations managers building recurring reports, revenue teams updating CRM notes, and marketing teams turning a brief into a shareable site. For coding-heavy jobs the natural pairing is Codex, which shares the same desktop app. OpenAI's separate always-on agent, dots, is a different product: it keeps working on ongoing responsibilities on Pro and Business Premium, while Work covers a single task you delegate and later review. Where a rival wins: MultiOn is lighter if the whole job is clicking through web forms, and Eigent runs open-source on your own machine. Pricing

Free, Go and Plus include ChatGPT Work with limits (desktop only on Free and Go), per OpenAI's pricing page read on 2 October 2026. ChatGPT Business Standard seats are $25 per user per month billed monthly or $20 billed annually, Premium seats $125 monthly or $100 annually with 5x the Standard usage, and a 2-seat minimum applies (OpenAI Help Center, checked 2 October 2026). Pro is $100, $200 or $500 a month, and only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast; GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast uses plan allowance at 8x the standard rate. Enterprise is quote-only, so no figure is quoted here. Workspace credits extend Work usage past included limits on eligible plans. • Free and Go users get limited desktop-only access; web and mobile Work starts at Plus.
• Enterprise pricing is quote-only, so budgeting needs a sales conversation.
• Usage past plan limits draws on purchased credits, and Ultrafast needs the $500 Pro 500 plan.
• OpenAI has not published a Work-specific benchmark score, so quality comparisons rest on general model results.
