Dia 1.3.0 for Windows runs on Chromium M156 and is the assistant-equipped browser made by the team behind Arc. It works on macOS and Windows and adds an assistant that answers from your open tabs and connected apps such as Gmail, Slack and Notion. Atlassian agreed to acquire its maker on 2025-09-04.

About Dia

Dia is a web browser from The Browser Company of New York, the studio that also made Arc. It is built on Chromium, the open-source engine behind Chrome and Edge, and runs on macOS and Windows. The company's own security page says Google account sign-in, Google usage metrics and profile syncing to Google are switched off, so Dia keeps its own sync instead of borrowing Chrome's.

The twist is an assistant that sits in the browser and reads across your tabs and the work apps you connect. Dia's apps page lists Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, Notion, Jira, Confluence, Amplitude and others as connectors, and Granola and LinkedIn as featured apps. You ask a question and it answers from open pages plus those sources, instead of you hunting through each one. On the top plan it also builds a Morning Brief from your calendar, inbox and key links, and turns scattered material into reports, decks and meeting prep.

The browser half is useful without any of that. Profiles keep work, freelance and personal logins apart, tab groups get named automatically, split view puts a meeting beside a doc, and an ad and tracker blocker is built in. A Windows 1.3.0 update added Focus Mode, Mac-to-Windows sync and an option that opens new sidebar tabs at the top, which matches Arc's familiar order.

Compared with Perplexity Comet, Dia leans on your own work apps rather than web search. Compared with the ChatGPT site or Gemini, it answers inside the page you are already on. If you take meeting notes in Granola or keep documents in Notion, those are the apps Dia is clearly aiming at. On 2025-09-04 Atlassian announced an agreement to acquire The Browser Company and said it wants Dia to become the browser for knowledge workers, with security and admin controls added. Dia's own business page says it is still getting the product ready for companies of all sizes.

If you are comparing options, the neighbours are easy to name. For slide output, Dia competes with Gamma and Tome. For meeting capture, look at Fathom and tl;dv. For calendar planning, Motion and Mem cover similar ground. Agent-style rivals include Manus and Genspark, while Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Monica and Raycast offer assistants without replacing your browser. The companies behind the closest rivals are Perplexity AI, OpenAI and Google.

Key Features

  • Ask across tabs and apps: Chat answers from the pages you have open plus the sources you connect, so one question can pull from an email thread, a calendar entry and a wiki page at once.
  • Morning Brief: A daily summary of your calendar, inbox and key links, available on the top Better Days plan.
  • Reports, decks and recaps: Turns material scattered across your tools into a shareable report or a slide deck with headers, layout and flow.
  • Profiles: Separate tabs, logins and AI context for work, freelance and personal use, switched in one gesture.
  • Split view with memory: Shows a meeting beside a document and remembers the layout for recurring calls such as 1:1s.
  • Automatic tab groups: Groups related tabs and names them, so a strip of pages becomes labels like "Q2 Planning".
  • Ad and tracking blocker: Built into the free Better Browser plan, alongside tab groups, picture-in-picture video and cross-device sync.
  • Mac and Windows sync: Dia Sync on Windows merges matching profiles with the Mac app, so tabs and settings follow you between computers.

Pros

  • The free plan is a full browser with profiles, split view, picture-in-picture, an ad blocker and sync, so you can judge the browser before paying for chat.
  • Connectors to Gmail, Slack, Notion, Jira and Confluence mean answers can draw on work context that a general chatbot tab cannot see.
  • Built on Chromium, so most Chrome-style sites behave normally, and the vendor says it keeps pace with upstream security releases (the latest Windows build moved to Chromium M156).
  • Arc-style sidebar tab order is available as a setting, which eases the move for existing Arc users.

Cons

  • The vendor's own plans page disagrees with itself on the Better Answers price ($10 on the card, $20 in the FAQ), which makes budgeting harder.
  • The AI features sit behind paid plans, and the top plan costs ten times the entry price listed on the card, with unpublished usage limits.
  • No mobile apps are listed; the downloads page offers macOS and Windows only.
  • The trust center did not render any compliance attestations when we read it, so regulated teams have nothing to cite yet.

Data Handling

Training-data policy
Dia's plan page says the Better Answers plan uses models that will not store your data. It does not name the models or give a retention period on the pages we read.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Dia cost in 2026?

Dia has three plans. Better Browser is free. Better Answers shows $10 a month on the plan card and $20 a month in the FAQ on the same page, so check the checkout screen before you commit. Better Days is $100 a month for 6x the usage of Better Answers. Usage limits apply to both paid plans and are not published.

Does Dia have a free plan?

Yes. Better Browser has no AI features but includes profiles, tab groups, split view, picture-in-picture video, an ad and tracking blocker and cross-device sync. If you cancel a paid plan you keep AI access until the billing cycle ends, then Dia carries on as the free browser.

Which tools compete with Dia in 2026?

[Perplexity Comet](/hub/tools/perplexity-comet) is the closest rival if you care more about web research than work apps. [Arc](/hub/tools/arc-browser) suits you if you want the tab design without an assistant. A chatbot such as [ChatGPT](/hub/tools/chatgpt) works if you are happy to paste context into a separate tab.

What separates Dia from Arc?

Both come from The Browser Company, but Dia is the one built around an assistant and work-app connectors. Dia offers an Arc-style sidebar tab order as a setting, so the layout feels familiar. The company is putting its resources into Dia, according to Atlassian's acquisition announcement.

How do you get started with Dia?

Download the macOS or Windows build from diabrowser.com and sign in. The free browser works immediately. To try the assistant, start a paid plan and connect apps such as Gmail, Slack or Notion from the apps page.
