Clipdrop is a browser-based AI image editor built from 9 single-purpose tools: background removal, background replacement, cleanup, text removal, uncrop, relight, resizing, upscaling up to 16x and text-to-image. Each tool runs on its own page instead of a shared canvas, which suits quick one-step jobs better than layered retouching.

About Clipdrop

Clipdrop is a browser-based set of nine AI image tools from Jasper: Remove Background, Replace Background, Cleanup, Text Remover, Uncrop, Relight, Universal Resizer, Image Upscaler and Text to Image. It started as InitML, founded in 2020 by Cyril Diagne, Jonathan Blanchet and Damien Henry, which joined Y Combinator's Winter 2021 batch and raised $1.5M. By the founders' own account on the Clipdrop homepage, Stability AI acquired it in February 2023 and Jasper took it over in February 2024.

Every tool lives on its own page and does one job, so there is no canvas, layer panel or project file to learn. You drop an image in, the tool returns a result, and you download it. The background remover and the upscaler take a batch per upload, while Cleanup works on one photo at a time. Text to Image gives four results for each prompt and runs on Stable Diffusion, the open image model from Stability AI, with style presets and five aspect ratios. The upscaler also denoises and strips compression artifacts.

The best fit is a quick, repeatable job: a seller cutting out product shots, a real-estate photographer removing a stray object from a listing photo, a social media manager resizing one image for several feeds, or a designer sketching a concept before opening a heavier editor. It is a poor fit for layered retouching, colour-managed print work or anything that needs a record of edits, because each tool is a single step.

Access is split into a free tier with daily caps, a Pro tier that lifts them, and a separate developer route. The old Clipdrop API pages now tell developers that Clipdrop is part of Jasper and send them to Jasper's image API, which Jasper's documentation ties to a Business plan with an API subscription. That makes Clipdrop a good place to try an image workflow and a less obvious place to build one.

Narrower specialists exist for each job. For cutouts alone, remove.bg and Photoroom are the usual comparisons. For upscaling on your own hardware, Topaz Photo AI is the desktop option. For generation inside Photoshop, Adobe Firefly is the closer match, and Midjourney, Ideogram, Flux, Krea and Freepik are worth comparing if text-to-image is the only thing you need. If you want a full design suite instead of single tools, Canva and Picsart are the broader options. Pricing

Two consumer tiers: Free and Pro. co/pricing for the figure that applies to you. Pro replaces the free daily caps with 1,000 uses per 24 hours on each tool and skips the queue for Text to Image and Uncrop.

Developers pay separately: the legacy Clipdrop API pages list usage-based pricing, and Jasper now documents the image API under its Business plan.

Key Features

  • Remove Background: Takes up to 10 files per drop and is built for portraits, product shots, drawings and fine detail such as hair and grids.
  • Image Upscaler: Offers 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x scales on the tool page, denoises and removes compression artifacts, and accepts a batch per upload.
  • Cleanup: Erases selected objects, people, text and defects from a single photo, which the vendor pitches at real-estate, e-commerce and photography users.
  • Text to Image: Returns four pictures per prompt from a Stable Diffusion model, with 14 style presets and five aspect ratios from 21:9 to 9:16.
  • Replace Background and Relight: Replace Background places a subject into a prompted scene, while Relight changes the lighting on portraits and drawings without studio gear.
  • Uncrop, Text Remover and Universal Resizer: Uncrop extends a photo to a new format, Text Remover strips text from images, and Universal Resizer fits one image to several social formats.
  • Jasper image API route: The Clipdrop API pages now point to Jasper, whose image endpoints cover remove background, replace background, cleanup, remove text, upscale and uncrop.

Pros

  • One site replaces four or five single-purpose cutout, cleanup, upscale and resize pages, which saves the account and upload overhead of juggling them.
  • Free caps are listed tool by tool on the pricing page, so you can see before signing up which of the free tools fit a light workload.
  • Still live in 2026 and tied into Jasper: the pages carry a 2026 copyright notice and promote Jasper's API for newer models.
  • The vendor FAQ gives a clear commercial-use answer: its terms do not limit commercial use of images generated on the site.

Cons

  • The public pricing page we read showed no Pro price, so you cannot cost the paid tier against rivals before opening the app.
  • The homepage FAQ says an HD background removal can be downloaded free, while the pricing page lists high-resolution background removal under Pro, so test output size on your own image before trusting the free tier for print.
  • Cleanup accepts one file at a time, so batch retouching means moving to the API, which now sits behind a Jasper Business plan.
  • Newer image models are routed to Jasper's API rather than the site, and the Text to Image page shows no model picker.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Clipdrop actually cost?

Clipdrop has a Free tier and a Pro tier. Pro is the paid plan, and we could not read its monthly figure from the vendor, so we do not quote one: open clipdrop.co/pricing for the amount and billing period in your region. Paying lifts the free caps to 1,000 daily runs per tool. Developers are billed separately, and Jasper's documentation says its image API needs a Business plan with an API subscription.

Can you use Clipdrop without paying?

Yes. The free tier lists daily caps of 20 uses each for Remove Background, the 2x Upscaler, Cleanup and Relight, and 50 for Text Remover. Text to Image, Uncrop and Replace Background are listed as free without a published cap. Free runs wait in the normal queue, and Pro is what skips it for Text to Image and Uncrop.

What are Clipdrop's closest competitors?

For cutouts, remove.bg bills by credit and Photoroom is built around batch product photos. For upscaling on your own computer, Topaz Photo AI is a desktop app. For generation next to editing tools, Adobe Firefly suits Photoshop users, and Midjourney is the pick when image quality matters more than editing features.

How does Clipdrop compare to remove.bg in 2026?

remove.bg does one thing, background removal, and charges per high-resolution download after free low-resolution previews. Clipdrop bundles cleanup, upscaling, resizing and text-to-image under daily quotas instead of credits. Pick Clipdrop if cutouts are one step in a bigger image job, and pick remove.bg if you only cut backgrounds and want the credit and API model.

How do you set up Clipdrop?

There is nothing to install: open clipdrop.co, choose a tool, and drop in an image. Accounts run through the Sign-in / Sign-up link in the header. Developers should use the Request API access page in Jasper's documentation rather than the old Clipdrop contact form.
