Understanding Tool Categories
Categories in the directory describe what a tool is used for, not how it's built. A tool can belong to more than one category. When you filter by category, you see tools that fit that use case.
Main Categories
- Coding — IDEs with AI, code completion, PR review, documentation generation
- Marketing — Content creation, ad copy, social media, SEO tools
- Writing — Blog posts, copywriting, email drafting, document editing
- Support — Customer-facing chatbots, knowledge bases, ticket triage
- Design — Image generation, video, UI prototyping
- Research — Search, summarization, competitive analysis
- Sales — Prospecting, outreach personalization, CRM intelligence
- Product — Roadmap tools, user research synthesis, spec writing
These aren't exhaustive. The full category list is in the Tool Category Taxonomy.
How to Filter by Category
In the filter panel on the left, select one or more categories. You can combine them — selecting Coding and Research shows tools that fit either. Combine with pricing or architecture filters to narrow further.
