Voicemod is a real-time voice changer and soundboard for Windows and macOS that offers 200+ voices from its own audio team plus a community library of 300,000+. It installs a virtual microphone, so Discord, OBS, Zoom and game chat hear the changed voice live. Its AI voices carry Fairly Trained certification.

About Voicemod

Voicemod is made in Valencia, Spain, and pairs a live voice changer with a built-in soundboard. Jaime Bosch co-founded it in 2014 and was its CEO when it raised in 2020, and Tech.eu reported 10 million PC downloads by July of that year. Funding so far is an $8 million round led by BITKRAFT Ventures (2020) and a $14.5 million round led by K Fund (February 2023, per Voicebot).

The desktop app installs a virtual microphone. You pick it as the input in Discord, OBS, Zoom or a game, and whatever you say is processed on the way through, so everyone in the call hears the changed voice. The presets run from classic effects such as robot, baby and alien to AI voices trained on recordings from professional actors. Voicemod says it does not listen to live conversations or to recordings supplied for AI voice creation.

It suits gamers, streamers and roleplay hosts who want a character voice without audio engineering. If you only want cleaner calls, Krisp AI targets noise removal and has a free tier. Finished narration is a different job. ElevenLabs can clone a voice from a sample on its Creator plan, while Resemble AI charges for voice generation by the second, and both centre on generated speech rather than live voice effects. Recorded audio is easier to tidy in Descript afterwards. Browse neighbouring options in the voice assistants category or filter the directory by voice capability, and see what generated audio costs per hour in our text-to-speech cost guide.

The desktop apps run on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 and on macOS Ventura 13 or later, and the AI voices need a processor with AVX2 support. The iOS and Android apps work as a remote controller for the desktop app and as a recorder for voice messages; per Voicemod's homepage, live changing on phones and consoles goes through its VMKey Pocket adapter. Voicemod lists NVIDIA among its hardware partners. Developers get a Control API that drives the installed app and an SDK for embedding voice changing in other software.

Pricing

Voicemod does not publish a price table on its website: the amounts appear inside the app and change with region and currency, so open the checkout before you commit. The Free version costs nothing. PRO is sold as monthly, yearly or lifetime plans, some markets show a 3-month option, and Voicemod told a Trustpilot reviewer that its annual and 3-month plans are charged in one upfront payment.

Premium voice packs from the Voicemod Store are separate purchases and not part of PRO. Desktop checkout runs through Xsolla or Paddle, and mobile checkout through RevenueCat. If background noise is your only problem, Krisp AI has a free noise-removal tier, and the text-to-speech cost guide covers voiceover pricing, with Murf AI among the voiceover tools listed here.

Key Features

  • Virtual microphone voice changing: Routes your mic through the Voicemod Virtual Microphone so Discord, OBS, Zoom and in-game chat hear one of 200+ in-house voices live.
  • Community voice and sound library: Browse 300,000+ community voices (a Voicemod-reported figure) and the Tuna sound library, then save favourites straight into a soundboard.
  • AI voices from actor recordings: AI voices are built from recordings by English-speaking professional actors, so English input gives the best results, and they need an AVX2-capable CPU.
  • VoiceLab custom voices (PRO): Stack effects such as reverb, delay, vocoder and pitch shift into a named custom voice, add an image and drop it on a soundboard.
  • Soundboards and keybinds: Ships 15+ themed soundboards and lets you bind any voice or sound to a key, so you switch without leaving the game.
  • Instant Replay recorder: Records sound clips from any source and rewinds up to 30 seconds so a moment you just heard can go onto a soundboard.
  • Hardware and device controls: Pairs with Elgato Stream Deck, Corsair iCUE and MSI Mystic Light, and a phone running the Voicemod Soundboard app can act as a remote.
  • Control API and SDK: Developers can drive the installed app through a Control API or embed voice changing with an SDK; the page cites 42+ million players and creators reached.

Pros

  • The free version already gives real-time changing, one soundboard and a permanent clean-mic effect, so you can test the whole pipeline in Discord or OBS before paying anything.
  • Setup comes down to one change, selecting Voicemod Virtual Microphone as the input, and the same step works across chat apps, games and streaming software.
  • Voicemod appears on the Fairly Trained certified company list, a third-party check on how its AI voice models were trained rather than a vendor claim alone.
  • A PRO purchase made on mobile syncs to the Windows and macOS apps, so one license covers the soundboard controller and the desktop voices.

Cons

  • Plan prices are not published on the website, only inside the app and by region, so you cannot compare costs before installing.
  • Trustpilot scores it 1.7 out of 5 from 457 reviews (read 2026-10-11); recent reviewers describe a monthly price shown in the app against a full-year charge at checkout, UI freezes, and a long uninstall questionnaire.
  • AI voices need an AVX2 CPU and work best in English, and Voicemod lists 8 GB RAM as the Windows minimum with 16 GB recommended if you also game or stream.
  • Premium voice packs in the Voicemod Store are sold separately and are not included in PRO.
  • Live voice changing on a phone or console needs the separate VMKey Pocket hardware, since the iOS and Android apps mainly control the desktop app and record messages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Voicemod actually cost?

You have to open the app to find out, because Voicemod keeps no public price table. The in-app store lists monthly, yearly and lifetime PRO options in your local currency, and the longer plans are billed in one upfront payment. In one October 2026 Trustpilot exchange, the app advertised 400 JPY per month for the annual plan while checkout charged 4,800 JPY for the whole year. Budget separately for any Store voice packs.

Can you use Voicemod without paying?

Yes, with limits. The free version unlocks only a daily rotation of voices, allows a single soundboard, keeps a clean-mic effect on, and locks VoiceLab and the PRO collections. Plugins such as Stream Deck and the mobile app work on Free too, but only with the content Free includes.

What are Voicemod's closest competitors?

Few HokAI listings change a live voice, so the nearest options solve neighbouring jobs. Krisp AI fits when you only want cleaner audio on calls. ElevenLabs suits finished voiceovers and cloned voices generated from text rather than a live mic. Resemble AI fits developers who need voice generation through an API, with SOC 2 and on-premise options.

How does Voicemod compare to ElevenLabs in 2026?

They sit at opposite ends of the same chain. Voicemod changes your voice live through a virtual microphone and unlocks its full library with a PRO plan, while ElevenLabs bills generated speech through monthly character allowances. Choose Voicemod for Discord, streams and games, and ElevenLabs when the output is an audio file someone plays later.

How do you set up Voicemod?

Download the app for Windows or macOS, sign in through a browser with Google, Discord, Twitch, Apple or email, then pick Voicemod Virtual Microphone as the input device in Discord, OBS or your game. On Windows the installer adds the Visual C++ and .NET Framework components it needs. Turn off browser ad blockers while signing in, since Voicemod lists them as a common login failure, and prefer a wired headset over Bluetooth.

Top Alternatives

  • ElevenLabs: Pick Voicemod if live character voices in chat are the goal, and ElevenLabs if you want generated speech or cloned voices delivered as audio files.
  • Krisp AI: Pick Krisp AI if you only want cleaner call audio, and Voicemod if the goal is sounding like someone else.
  • Resemble AI: Pick Resemble AI if you are a developer wiring a voice API into a product, and Voicemod if you are a player or streamer on a desktop app.
